Kiwanis planning Lambton Film and Food Festival
Club member Glen Starkey said the new three-day festival, from May 23-25, will combine the screening of a series of films at the Kineto Theatre in Forest, with opportunities to sample local food from Lambton County farms and restaurants.

“This would be something a little different,” Starkey said about the movie lineup.
Organizers are working with the Toronto International Film Festival to select titles expected to include independent and art films, much like those shown by cineSarnia, he said.
The service club already offers a subscription series, in association with the Forest-Lambton Museum, wholesale MLB jerseys that screens films that haven’t been widely distributed.
The MellanskogsElmia 225-seat Kineto Theatre dates back to 1917. It was purchased and revived by the service club in 1977.
Just recently, the Kiwanis Club raised about $150,000 to convert the Kineto to digital projection equipment so it could continue showing first-run movies several evenings a week.
It may take the form of area restaurants offering special local menu items that weekend, or a gala where a variety of local food can be sampled at a single location, he said.
“We have a lot of great food produced in Lambton County,” he said. “Let’s profile it and share it with a broader audience.”
A festival website is Kineto expected to be up and operating in January, Starkey said.
